For the purposes of this analysis, the language is viewed in the light of Grice's Co-operative Principle (1975) teacher-pupil discourse strategies adult-child discourse strategies and various other linguistic devices. It aims to establish how linguistic devices are used to reveal and develop the intra- and inter-personal relationships of the characters in the play. The study summarized in this paper attempts an analysis of the Form and Function of the language in Harold Pinter's play, The Caretaker.
